UPDATE to I-81 Bridge Construction over Rte 80
July 29, 2016

Ladies and Gentlemen,

After 9:00 PM, Monday, September 19th, NY-80 between NY-11A and NY-11/NY-281 will be periodically closed for periods of up to 15 minutes.    The five (5) new deck beams for the northbound I-81 bridge are schedule for installation. One-lane, two-way traffic will start around 6:30 PM to allow for the crane to be set up. The rain date is September 20th.

The 60 ton beams will be lifted into place by a crane parked in the eastbound lane of NY-80, on the east side of I-81.  As before with the southbound bridge, NY-80 between the NY-11A and NY-11/281 intersections will be closed in both directions while the beams are in motion.   One lane will be opened at 15 minute intervals for traffic to move in either direction under the control of flaggers located at the intersections. The work should be completed by midnight.

In about 3 weeks, work will begin in the south shoulder of NY-80 on installing storm sewer pipes to replace the ditches and the new asphalt walks under the I-81 bridges.  This work will result in occasional one-lane, 2-way traffic, after 9:00 AM on weekdays and possibly Saturdays.

The contractor remains on schedule.  I-81 northbound traffic will be switched to the new bridge around October 14th.  The removal of the temporary bridge and the roadway in the median will follow. All work on I-81 and NY-80 will be substantially complete by Thanksgiving.
